This portrait captures the intense, unwavering stare of a Steller's Sea Eagle (Haliaeetus pelagicus). While this magnificent bird is typically native to coastal Northeast Asia, this particular individual was photographed during a dedicated wildlife expedition in the Oetztal valley last summer. Against the deep, featureless black, the rich detail of its dark brown plumage and the striking, powerful yellow of its beak and eye become utterly mesmerizing.
